Upholstery of chairs

Six chairs in a "refurbished" condition two years ago...a simple modern glue repair that has been slightly worn by use. The new artificial leather covering was glued in pieces to the upholstery, which had previously been replaced with artificial leather. A quick, but non-permanent and incomplete solution.

Removing the upper upholstery takes 5 minutes and the old one 6 hours...when removing it, you must pay attention to the fact that the wood is not damaged. The tapestry can be lowered from the top, if the extractor rests on the wood, a metal sheet is placed underneath. We remove all nails and staples so that the new fixings can be wedged into the wood easily and precisely.

The wooden parts of the chairs were sanded in oil and treated with polish. The backrest looks like leather, but it only looks like it...the previous repairmen didn't recognize this and upgraded it as leather. The backrest is made of paper, printed pattern and fixed with shellac. The abrasions were colored with spirit stain and covered with shellac. The printed pattern has not been improved, the lack of larger pieces can be replaced with a mixture of tissue paper and silk.

After complete drying, the sponge was supplemented with frieze - carded cotton wool - and covered with a spam cloth. This way, the colored upholstery does not move on the sponge, and the seating surface will be more durable and comfortable. The last step is to cut and pin the leather. The decorative nails were placed in their final place with a leather band. We gave the leather more freedom of movement: when sitting down, the clips stretch and the nails catch in different places and to different degrees. It recovers its original shape more easily after loading.
